Individual Standalone Consultation Sessions

A focused, standalone session for parents and parents-to-be struggling with parental gender disappointment

Support for You, Whilst Navigating Parental Gender Disappointment

A focused, one-off session offering understanding, guidance and next steps

Not having a baby of the sex you had hoped for can be a deeply personal and often misunderstood experience. It can bring up emotions, questions, worries and uncertainty that feel difficult to make sense of or talk about openly with others.

An Individual Standalone Consultation Session offers a focused first step in understanding parental gender disappointment, how this is showing up for you and what kinds of support you might find most helpful.

Some people choose an Individual Standalone Consultation because now is not currently the right time for ongoing therapy for them or because they prefer a more self-directed approach and are seeking some initial guidance. Others may already be working with a therapist but want to access specialist understanding of parental gender disappointment, which they can take back to their existing therapeutic work. Consultation is designed to support understanding, offer guidance and suggest potential next steps rather than provide the ongoing therapeutic support or depth of exploration offered within Regular Therapy Sessions.

Specialist Parental Gender Disappointment Services

Individual Standalone Consultation Sessions

A structured, one-off, specialist consultation to help you make sense of parental gender disappointment, better understand your own experience and consider possible next steps

An Individual Standalone Consultation Session provides a focused opportunity to explore parental gender disappointment through specialist psychoeducation, reflection and discussion. Together, we will work towards a better understanding of your experience and consider what kinds of support might be most helpful for you.

Drawing on my specialist knowledge of parental gender disappointment, my own and others’ research in this area and alongside ideas from evidence-based psychological approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), we will explore common themes and patterns associated with parental gender disappointment and consider how these might relate to your personal situation and the current impact on your emotional wellbeing.

Through this process, you can begin to develop a clearer understanding of your preference for baby’s sex and related distress, reflect on some of the meanings, hopes and worries connected to your experience, and identify areas where further support may be helpful. I can also offer guidance, practical suggestions and signposting to relevant resources and support options.

Individual Standalone Consultation Session  – 90 minutes, £225

The sessions I had helped me make sense of difficulties I was experiencing and gave me hope that I could change things that I thought were a lost cause. I am now in the process of finding my feet again and have the confidence to seek help again should I need to. I felt listened to and that the sessions were guided by what I wanted to focus on. I wouldn’t hesitate to contact Lindsay again in the future and would highly recommend her services.
