Meet Dr Lindsay

Supporting you when becoming a parent, being a parent, or this stage of life doesn’t feel as you expected.

Hello and a warm welcome to you.

I’m Dr Lindsay McMillan, a UK HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist specialising in supporting adults through the emotional complexities of becoming and being a parent. For over twenty years, I’ve worked with adults, parents, children, young people, families and professionals across the NHS, social care, the criminal justice system and in private practice. Alongside my clinical work, I am also a mother of three young children, including twins.

Parenthood is one of life’s most significant transitions. Both professionally and personally, I understand how this stage of life can bring unexpected challenges and difficult emotions, particularly when parenthood doesn’t unfold in the way hoped, imagined or expected, or when the reality of parenthood feels very different from what was anticipated.

My approach has been shaped by many years of working closely with parents, parents-to-be and those hoping to become parents, supporting them through a wide range of emotional experiences and challenges. You can read more about parental mental health and wellbeing, and the areas I support, on my Who I Help page.

The way I work is grounded in collaboration, compassion and curiosity, to create a calm space where you can begin to make sense of your experiences and feel understood and supported.

Together, we can explore what you bring into parenthood from your own experiences, what you are navigating now, and how you might move forward with greater clarity, self-compassion and confidence.

Your wellbeing matters,
alongside your family’s wellbeing

If you would like to explore working together, please do get in touch. I look forward to hearing from you.

A note from the founder of Plum Psychology:

I was so pleased when Lindsay agreed to join Plum Psychology. I was familiar with her work from a powerful workshop she ran and from hearing her speak in peer meet ups. I knew her warmth and experience would be perfect for those seeking help with issues related to difficult post, or perinatal experiences alongside burnout and other life-stresses.

Working together

I recognise that many people come into therapy carrying guilt, shame, self-criticism or fear of judgement, and feeling unsure whether their experiences and emotions are acceptable, understandable or safe to share. I am committed to approaching our time together with genuine openness, curiosity, care and compassion, and to supporting you at your pace in a way that feels most helpful for you right now. We will work together to help you make sense of whatever you are experiencing, even when feelings are complicated, contradictory or hard to put into words.
