Individual Therapy for Parents and Those Preparing for Parenthood
Ongoing, one-to-one therapeutic support to help you navigate the emotional and psychological challenges of becoming and being a parent
Support for You, Through Every Stage of Parenthood
Compassionate psychological therapy to meet you where you are
Navigating parenthood can bring a wide range of experiences and emotions, with some easier to talk about and cope with than others.
I specialise in supporting the complex and often unspoken experiences that can arise within and alongside parenthood and aim to offer a supportive, non-judgemental one-to-one space for parents, parents-to-be and those hoping to become parents.
You may be seeking support for yourself in navigating fertility difficulties, loss, trauma, burnout, parenting challenges, relationship changes or other unexpected realities and the impact these are having on your mental health and wellbeing. One-to-one therapy can offer a chance to slow down, reflect and feel supported, whilst developing new ways of coping, responding to distress and strengthening emotional wellbeing.

Regular Therapy Sessions
A dedicated space to explore your experiences and their impact in greater depth over time, develop a deeper understanding of yourself and find ways to move forwards
In Regular Therapy Sessions, together we will explore your experiences and their impact whilst building a shared understanding of what is happening in your life and making sense of difficulties within their wider context. This may include considering how past experiences, relationships and life circumstances may continue to influence aspects of how you feel, think, respond and cope today, and how your body and nervous system may have adapted to manage stress and difficult experiences.
Alongside this understanding, therapy can help you develop new ways of coping and responding to distress, strengthen emotional wellbeing, build emotional regulation skills and navigate day-to-day life with greater confidence and self-compassion.
Therapy is tailored to your individual needs and draws upon ideas from evidence based approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), amongst others.
We will regularly reflect on what feels helpful, where you are noticing shifts happening and where you would like the work to focus moving forward.
Regular Therapy Sessions are offered initially on a Weekly or Fortnightly basis, with the option to move to Monthly or Quarterly Seasonal Check-in Sessions once we have established our work together.
How it works
01
Get in touch
Complete my contact form and share a little about what has brought you to seek support and that you are interested in Regular Therapy Sessions.
02
Book a Complimentary 15-Minute Introduction Call
If I have capacity to take on new clients, I will invite you to a complimentary 15-minute Introduction Call, to take place online over Zoom. This gives us an opportunity to discuss your needs, answer any questions you might have and consider whether working together feels like a good fit.
03
Book your Initial Assessment Session
If you decide you would like to proceed, we will agree a Regular Therapy Session pattern of frequency (weekly or fortnightly), day and time. You will then be able to book into your Initial Assessment Session.
In this first session, we will begin to explore what has brought you to therapy, the impact it is having on your wellbeing and what you hope might be different as a result of our work together. We will begin to build a shared understanding of your experiences and the difficulties you are facing, whilst recognising that this continues to develop as therapy progresses.
Initial Assessment Session – 60 minutes, £140

Ongoing Regular Therapy Session Support
Following your Initial Assessment Session, ongoing Regular Therapy Sessions are available on a rolling basis, for as long as you need. Initially these are offered as weekly or fortnightly and over time, we may adjust the frequency of appointments to reflect your needs, goals and circumstances.
In these ongoing sessions, we can continue exploring what is happening in the present, consider how earlier experiences and relationships may be continuing to shape current experiences and coping and, when you feel ready, think about what moving forward could look like for you.

I felt understood by a therapist for the first time in my life. Sessions with Dr McMillan provided me with tools to use in my every day life. We worked on my sense of safety and compassion and this change of approach was a real game changer for me, after many ineffective CBT therapy attempts in the past. Before our therapy, I was struggling with a lot of anxiety - these sessions helped me to foster my sense of safety, develop a kinder relationship with myself and deal with my trauma better. Thank you!
